Because people are STUPID.  They don't bother to check stuff out before 
the mindlessly forward it to all their friends, "just in case", or forward 
it to a security list.

And it's all so easy ... snopes.com is your friend.  But, it's easier to 
forward scary-sounding email than it is to check it out.  OK, so I was 
wrong - people are STUPID *and* lazy.
