DSA-2018-020: Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor Hardcoded Password Vulnerability

Dell EMC Identifier: DSA-2018-020
CVE Identifier: CVE-2018-1206
Severity: High
Severity Rating: CVSS v3 Base Score: 8.4 (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)

Affected products:
Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor versions prior to 6.3 Patch 159

Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor contains a database account with a hardcoded password that could potentially be exploited by malicious users to compromise the affected system.

Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor (DPA) contains a hardcoded database account with administrative privileges. The affected account is "apollosuperuser." An attacker with local access to the server where DPA Datastore Service is installed and knowledge of the password may potentially gain unauthorized access to the database.

Note: The Datastore Service database cannot be accessed remotely using this account.

The following Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor releases address this vulnerability:
Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor version 6.3 Patch 159
Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor version 6.4 Patch 110

The password for "apollosuperuser" account can now be changed through the above security fixes. See Installation and Administration Guide for more information.

Note: Dell EMC Data Protection Advisor version 6.5 is not impacted by this issue.

Dell EMC recommends all customers upgrade at the earliest opportunity.
