Subject: 3.12.8 poor network performance x86_64

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512

Hi!

(please CC me as I'm currently not subscribed)

I recently upgraded the Kernel from version 3.10 to latest stable
3.12.8, did the usual "make oldconfig" (resulting config attached).

But now I noticed some _really_ low network performance.
To give you some numbers:

> iperf -c localhost
> ------------------------------------------------------------ Client
> connecting to localhost, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 648 KByte
> (default)
> ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3]
> local 127.0.0.1 port 54718 connected with 127.0.0.1 port 5001 [
> ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-11.9 sec 1.12
> MBytes 796 Kbits/sec

This used to be several Gbits/sec..

Trying to download the file
ftp://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/linux-3.12.tar.xz with wget
gives me ~40 K/s.

Normally its about 2.5 M/s.

Copying some files via cifs from my NAS is at about 6M/s.

Reverting the box to kernel 3.10 gives the old speed back so I'm
pretty sure its either my config or an regression.

The network devices I tried:
> 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Yukon
> Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev
> 11) Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0cf3:1002 Atheros Communications, Inc.
> TP-Link TL-WN821N v2 802.11n [Atheros AR9170]

I might be mistaken but I don't think it has something todo with the
actual device or its module, as iperf localhost is using the lo device.

I appreciate any help (as long as it doesn't include downloading large
chunks ;)

Greetings
Daniel Exner
