Trustix Secure Linux Security Advisory #2007-0023

Package names: bind, clamav, curl, mod_perl, perl-net-dns, php, tcpdump
Summary: Multiple vulnerabilities
Date: 2007-07-28
Affected versions: Trustix Secure Linux 2.2
                   Trustix Secure Linux 3.0
                   Trustix Secure Linux 3.0.5
Trustix Operating System - Enterprise Server 2

- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Package description:
  bind
BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is an implementation of the DNS
(Domain Name System) protocols. BIND includes a DNS server (named),
which resolves host names to IP addresses, and a resolver library
(routines for applications to use when interfacing with DNS). A DNS
server allows clients to name resources or objects and share the
information with other network machines. The named DNS server can be
used on workstations as a caching name server, but is generally only
needed on one machine for an entire network.

  clamav
Clam AntiVirus is a GPL anti-virus toolkit for UNIX. The main purpose
of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a command line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with
package, which you can use with your own software.

  curl
curl is a client to get documents/files from servers, using any of the
supported protocols. The command is designed to work without user
interaction or any kind of interactivity.

  mod_perl
Mod_perl incorporates a Perl interpreter into the Apache web server,
so that the Apache web server can directly execute Perl code. Mod_perl
links the Perl runtime library into the Apache web server and provides
an object-oriented Perl interface for Apache's C language API. The end
result is a quicker CGI script turnaround process, since no external
Perl interpreter has to be started.

  perl-net-dns
Perl interface to the DNS resolver.

  php
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it
easy for developers to write dynamically generated web pages. PHP
also offers built-in database integration for several commercial
and non-commercial database management systems, so writing a
database-enabled web page with PHP is fairly simple. The most common
use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts. The
mod_php module enables the Apache web server to understand and process
the embedded PHP language in web pages.

  tcpdump
Tcpdump is a command-line tool for monitoring network traffic. Tcpdump
can capture and display the packet headers on a particular network
interface or on all interfaces. Tcpdump can display all of the packet
headers, or just the ones that match particular criteria.

Problem description:
  bind < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 > < TSEL 2>
  - New upsteam.
  - SECURITY Fix: Amit Klein has reported a vulnerability in BIND,
caused due to predictable query IDs in outgoing queries which can
be exploited to poison the DNS cache when the query ID is guessed.

The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has
assigned the name CVE-2007-2926 to this issue.

  clamav < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 >
  - New Upstream.
  - SECURITY Fix: Metaeye SG has reported a vulnerability in ClamAV,
caused due to a NULL-pointer dereference error within
libclamav/unrar/unrarvm.c when handling RAR archives. This can
be exploited to cause a crash via a specially crafted RAR
    archive (SA26038).

  curl < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 >
  - New Upstream.
  - SECURITY Fix: A security issue has been reported in cURL/libcURL,
when the validity period of SSL/TLS certificates presented by peers
is not properly checked. This can be exploited to bypass access
restrictions imposed by SSL/TLS certificates, but requires that
    cURL/libcURL is built with GnuTLS.

The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project has assigned the
    name CVE-2007-3564 to this issue.

  mod_perl < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 >
  - SECURITY Fix: A vulnerability has been reported in mod_perl caused
due to a regular expression in "RegistryCooker.pm" that uses the
"path_info" variable without properly escaping it. This can be
exploited to cause a DoS by sending requests with specially
crafted URLs to a vulnerable server.

The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org)
has assigned the name CVE-2007-1349 to this issue.

  perl-net-dns < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 >
  - SECURITY Fix: An error exists in the handling of DNS queries where
IDs are incremented with a fixed value and are additionally used
for child processes in a forking server. This can be exploited
to poison the DNS cache of an application using the module if a
    valid ID is guessed.
  - An error in the PP implementation within the "dn_expand()" function
can be exploited to cause a stack overflow due to an endless loop
via a specially crafted DNS packet.

The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org)
has assigned the names CVE-2007-3377 and CVE-2007-3409 to
    these issues.

  php < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 >
  - New Upstream.
  - Rebuilt with new cURL.
  - SECURITY Fix: Multiple security fixes.
  - Fixes an integer overflow inside chunk_split().
  - Fixes possible infinite loop in imagecreatefrompng.
  - Fixes ext/filter Email Validation Vulnerability.
  - Fixes an error in the "realpath()" function which allows bypassing
of the "open_basedir" restriction and identifying the existence
    of files.

The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project has assigned the
    names CVE-2007-2872, CVE-2007-2756, CVE-2007-1900 and CVE-2007-3007
    to these issues.

  tcpdump < TSL 3.0.5 > < TSL 3.0 > < TSL 2.2 > < TSEL 2>
  - SECURITY Fix: mu-b has reported a vulnerability in tcpdump, caused
due to the incorrect use of the return value of "snprintf()" in
print-bgp.c. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow by
    sending specially crafted BGP packets.

The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org)
has assigned the name CVE-2007-3798 to this issue.

Action:
We recommend that all systems with this package installed be upgraded.
Please note that if you do not need the functionality provided by this
package, you may want to remove it from your system.
