Debian Security Advisory DSA-2047-1 security@...ian.org

May 17, 2010 http://www.debian.org/security/faq
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Package : aria2
Vulnerability : insufficient input sanitising
Problem type : local (remote)
Debian-specific: no
CVE Id : CVE-2010-1512

A vulnerability was discovered in aria2, a download client. The "name"
attribute of the "file" element of metalink files is not properly
sanitised before using it to download files. If a user is tricked into
downloading from a specially crafted metalink file, this can be
exploited to download files to directories outside of the intended
download directory.

For the stable distribution (lenny), this problem has been fixed in
version 0.14.0-1+lenny2.

For the unstable distribution (sid), this problem has been fixed in
version 1.9.3-1.

We recommend that you upgrade your aria2 package.

Upgrade instructions
- --------------------

wget url
will fetch the file for you
dpkg -i file.deb
        will install the referenced file.

If you are using the apt-get package manager, use the line for
sources.list as given below:

apt-get update
        will update the internal database
apt-get upgrade
        will install corrected packages

You may use an automated update by adding the resources from the
footer to the proper configuration.
