I think (hope) he's referring to the concept of the Internet, not the
physical infrastructure. The basic concept was pretty much a product of
American engineers...who were quite possibly foreign born. So there, you
can't accuse me of having some kind of superiority complex. As far as the
physical part goes, it's probably safe to say that enough of that is owned
by American companies to constitute a majority. Personally, I don't think
this is a good thing at all, but that's just the way things are. So, he is
somewhat correct on either issue. If the major American carriers pulled
the plug, the Internet as we know it pretty much ceases to exist. You
could argue the point until you're blue in the face, but it's tough to
prove either side.
