Subject: ISS Security Brief: "MS Blast" MSRPC DCOM Worm Propagation (fwd)

On the car radio today I heard that the Maryland Dept. of Motor Vehicles was
shutdown completely as well as numerous other state and federal agencies in
the USA.

What is really scary is that many companies or agencies will not report
their problems...the IT department does not want to look stupid. So we may
never really now the extent of this worm!

It shouldn't surprise you. Just go back and read yesterday's list traffic.
Take notice of how many people (on this list no less!) were apparently
blissfully unaware that there was a vulnerability in the first place, much
less knew what the symptoms were. Many of these people appear to be the
very folks charged with maintaining systems and networks. How could they
not know?
