There are actually _three_ versions that I know of: Hobbit's original,
 aka netcat 1.1; Weld Pond's Windows port of hobbit's netcat; and the
GNU rewrite from scratch, which adds some variously-useful options and
is available in various in lots of versions. AFAIK the original and the
Windows port are only available in one or two versions but there are
presumably different versions of the GNU nc in various distros.
