Message-ID: <9B66BBD37D5DD411B8CE00508B69700F05ADDDF8@pborolocal.rnib.org.uk> From: John.Airey at rnib.org.uk (John.Airey@...b.org.uk) Subject: Full Disclosure made law Apologies to those that get the Netcraft newsletter already, but apparently hosting.com has publicised a security breach as it is mandated by a new Californian law - http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2004/03/15/hostingcom_cites_security_breac h_information_act_in_disclosing_successful_attack.html As part of my degree course we covered the secrecy in disclosing security problems that is prevalent in the IT industry. I can't remember the title of the book that was the course reference, but I can look it up if anyone wants to know it. The bottom line was that companies prefer to keep these things quiet. Obviously legislation like this should change all that and make businesses pay more attention to data security. (Apologies for the Outlook word-wrapping). - John Airey, BSc (Jt Hons), CNA, RHCE Internet systems support officer, ITCSD, Royal National Institute of the Blind, Bakewell Road, Peterborough PE2 6XU, Tel.: +44 (0) 1733 375299 Fax: +44 (0) 1733 370848 John.Airey@...b.org.uk Shameless movie plug - go see the Passion of the Christ! - DISCLAIMER: NOTICE: The information contained in this email and any attachments is confidential and may be privileged.
