Subject: Blocking Skype on ISP level

At 13:00 2005-04-04, Jochen Kaiser scribed thusly:
>This can be achieved by using an IDP system and blocking the
>appropriate p2p protocol (I forgot which one. overnet?).

<education about IDP characteristics weeded out>

>So as an ISP who shall grant best quality for all customers the
>usage of a software based IDP may not be the appropriate way.

"may not be the appropriate way" may well be the understatement
of the year so far.

*SIGH*

If one reads ISP as IP Services Provider, then maybe blocking
of certain services to force customers to use the "Service
Provider"s so called "services" would be acceptable. Not even
needed to mention the deteriorated quality such IDP deployment
will cause. If they ever use the word "Internet" in their
marketing, then somebody should educate them the hard way
about the Internet's supposedly being an open network
in the widest possible meaning.

Will they ever learn?

(...unassorted mutterings about who be the first ones up
against the walls when the revolution comes...)

Excuse me ranting, promise I'll crawl back where I came from
and continue my abysmal lurking...
