Background ========== Axel is a console-based FTP/HTTP download accelerator. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 net-misc/axel < 1.0b >= 1.0b Description =========== A possible buffer overflow has been reported in the HTTP redirection handling code in conn.c. Impact ====== A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by setting up a malicious site and enticing a user to connect to it. This could possibly lead to the execution of arbitrary code with the permissions of the user running Axel. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All Axel users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=net-misc/axel-1.0b" References ========== [ 1 ] CAN-2005-0390 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2005-0390 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200504-09.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us.
