Message-ID: <2025030606-CVE-2024-58056-6955@gregkh> Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2025 16:54:09 +0100 From: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@...uxfoundation.org> To: linux-cve-announce@...r.kernel.org Cc: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@...uxfoundation.org> Subject: CVE-2024-58056: remoteproc: core: Fix ida_free call while not allocated Description =========== In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: remoteproc: core: Fix ida_free call while not allocated In the rproc_alloc() function, on error, put_device(&rproc->dev) is called, leading to the call of the rproc_type_release() function. An error can occurs before ida_alloc is called. In such case in rproc_type_release(), the condition (rproc->index >= 0) is true as rproc->index has been initialized to 0. ida_free() is called reporting a warning: [ 4.181906] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 24 at lib/idr.c:525 ida_free+0x100/0x164 [ 4.186378] stm32-display-dsi 5a000000.dsi: Fixed dependency cycle(s) with /soc/dsi@...00000/panel@0 [ 4.188854] ida_free called for id=0 which is not allocated. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2024-58056 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 6.0 with commit 08333b911f01862e71e51b7065fb4baca3cd2e67 and fixed in 6.1.129 with commit 2cf54928e7e32362215c69b68a6a53d110323bf3 Issue introduced in 6.0 with commit 08333b911f01862e71e51b7065fb4baca3cd2e67 and fixed in 6.6.76 with commit b32d60a852bb3952886625d0c3b1c9a88c3ceb7c Issue introduced in 6.0 with commit 08333b911f01862e71e51b7065fb4baca3cd2e67 and fixed in 6.12.13 with commit f2013d19b7704cd723ab42664b8d9408ea8cc77c Issue introduced in 6.0 with commit 08333b911f01862e71e51b7065fb4baca3cd2e67 and fixed in 6.13.2 with commit e9efd9fa4679803fe23188d7b47119cf7bc2de6f Issue introduced in 6.0 with commit 08333b911f01862e71e51b7065fb4baca3cd2e67 and fixed in 6.14-rc1 with commit 7378aeb664e5ebc396950b36a1f2dedf5aabec20 Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2024-58056 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/remoteproc/remoteproc_core.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2cf54928e7e32362215c69b68a6a53d110323bf3 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/b32d60a852bb3952886625d0c3b1c9a88c3ceb7c https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/f2013d19b7704cd723ab42664b8d9408ea8cc77c https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e9efd9fa4679803fe23188d7b47119cf7bc2de6f https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7378aeb664e5ebc396950b36a1f2dedf5aabec20
