Dumping this will slow things down,
there will be a lot of calls to snprinf.
Consider making it a bit less slow by handling
full 16-byte lines a bit faster, like:

ptr[0], ptr[1], ptr[2], ptr[3],

num -= 16;
ptr += 16;
}
