Did you gather any performance numbers comparing
VIRTUAL_MEM_MAP+SPARSEMEM to SPARSEMEM+EXTREME? I did some quick but
inconclusive (small machine) ones when you first posted. There was
perhaps a slight degradation in VIRTUAL_MEM_MAP+SPARSEMEM.
