Subject: 2.6.23-rc1-git10 hangs on boot - needs "acpi=off"

Hi there!

I download git snapshots regularly. With kernels 2.6.23-rc1-git8 through
git10 the machine
hung while booting the kernel, right after the message "Marking TSC
unstable due to..."
With -git8 I didn't know how to debug the problem, so I used the
previous kernel that worked.
After reading some mail lists posts, I tried passing "acpi=off" to
git10, and it worked - no
hang during boot.

Attached is the kernel config used for 2.6.23-rc1-git10.

The machine that hangs while booting the kernel is an AMD Duron 900MHz,
on an aging
ASUS A7V133-M mobo (VIA KT133 chipset).
Curiously, another, even older machine - K6-2 450, booted
2.6.23-rc1-git8 without any
problems - without the need of "acpi=off".... using only the parameters
I normally pass
to the kernel in order for it to work - it has some bad RAM, so I use
memmap with this
older machine.

If more info is needed - mail me. And please Cc: me, because I am not
subscribed to
the list.

Thanks!
