You are right. here's a version that does work. It works the same as
git-grep -E "((\(|&&|\|\|)[[:space:]]*(0[xX][0-9a-fA-F]+|[0-9]+)[[:space:]]*(&&|\|\|)|(&&|\|\|)[[:space:]]*(0[xX][0-9a-fA-F]+|[0-9]+)[[:space:]]*(\)|&&|\|\|))"
