From: Miklos Szeredi Add a new BDI capability flag: BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_WB. If this flag is set, then don't update the per-bdi writeback stats from test_set_page_writeback() and test_clear_page_writeback(). Misc cleanups: - convert bdi_cap_writeback_dirty() and friends to static inline functions - create a flag that includes all three dirty/writeback related flags, since almst all users will want to have them toghether Signed-off-by: Miklos Szeredi --- fs/configfs/inode.c | 2 - fs/hugetlbfs/inode.c | 2 - fs/ocfs2/dlm/dlmfs.c | 2 - fs/ramfs/inode.c | 2 - fs/sysfs/inode.c | 2 - include/linux/backing-dev.h | 77 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++------------ kernel/cgroup.c | 2 - mm/page-writeback.c | 4 +- mm/shmem.c | 2 - mm/swap_state.c | 2 - 10 files changed, 67 insertions(+), 30 deletions(-) Index: linux/fs/configfs/inode.c =================================================================== --- linux.orig/fs/configfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:27:43.000000000 +0100 +++ linux/fs/configfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:38:45.000000000 +0100 @@ -47,7 +47,7 @@ static const struct address_space_operat static struct backing_dev_info configfs_backing_dev_info = { .ra_pages = 0, /* No readahead */ - .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_DIRTY | BDI_CAP_NO_WRITEBACK, + .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_AND_WRITEBACK, }; static const struct inode_operations configfs_inode_operations ={ Index: linux/fs/hugetlbfs/inode.c =================================================================== --- linux.orig/fs/hugetlbfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:27:43.000000000 +0100 +++ linux/fs/hugetlbfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:38:45.000000000 +0100 @@ -45,7 +45,7 @@ static const struct inode_operations hug static struct backing_dev_info hugetlbfs_backing_dev_info = { .ra_pages = 0, /* No readahead */ - .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_DIRTY | BDI_CAP_NO_WRITEBACK, + .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_AND_WRITEBACK, }; int sysctl_hugetlb_shm_group; Index: linux/fs/ocfs2/dlm/dlmfs.c =================================================================== --- linux.orig/fs/ocfs2/dlm/dlmfs.c 2008-03-18 19:27:43.000000000 +0100 +++ linux/fs/ocfs2/dlm/dlmfs.c 2008-03-18 19:38:45.000000000 +0100 @@ -327,7 +327,7 @@ clear_fields: static struct backing_dev_info dlmfs_backing_dev_info = { .ra_pages = 0, /* No readahead */ - .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_DIRTY | BDI_CAP_NO_WRITEBACK, + .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_AND_WRITEBACK, }; static struct inode *dlmfs_get_root_inode(struct super_block *sb) Index: linux/fs/ramfs/inode.c =================================================================== --- linux.orig/fs/ramfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:27:43.000000000 +0100 +++ linux/fs/ramfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:38:45.000000000 +0100 @@ -44,7 +44,7 @@ static const struct inode_operations ram static struct backing_dev_info ramfs_backing_dev_info = { .ra_pages = 0, /* No readahead */ - .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_DIRTY | BDI_CAP_NO_WRITEBACK | + .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_AND_WRITEBACK | BDI_CAP_MAP_DIRECT | BDI_CAP_MAP_COPY | BDI_CAP_READ_MAP | BDI_CAP_WRITE_MAP | BDI_CAP_EXEC_MAP, }; Index: linux/fs/sysfs/inode.c =================================================================== --- linux.orig/fs/sysfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:27:43.000000000 +0100 +++ linux/fs/sysfs/inode.c 2008-03-18 19:38:45.000000000 +0100 @@ -30,7 +30,7 @@ static const struct address_space_operat static struct backing_dev_info sysfs_backing_dev_info = { .ra_pages = 0, /* No readahead */ - .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_DIRTY | BDI_CAP_NO_WRITEBACK, + .capabilities = BDI_CAP_NO_ACCT_AND_WRITEBACK, }; static const struct inode_operations sysfs_inode_operations ={ Index: linux/include/linux/backing-dev.h =================================================================== --- linux.orig/include/linux/backing-dev.h 2008-03-18 19:27:43.000000000 +0100 +++ linux/include/linux/backing-dev.h 2008-03-18 19:38:45.000000000 +0100 @@ -12,6 +12,7 @@ #include #include #include +#include #include struct page; @@ -153,22 +154,43 @@ int bdi_set_max_ratio(struct backing_dev /* * Flags in backing_dev_info::capability - * - The first two flags control whether dirty pages will contribute to the - * VM's accounting and whether writepages() should be called for dirty pages - * (something that would not, for example, be appropriate for ramfs) - * - These flags let !MMU mmap() govern direct device mapping vs immediate - * copying more easily for MAP_PRIVATE, especially for ROM filesystems + * + * The first three flags control whether dirty pages will contribute to the + * VM's accounting and whether writepages() should be called for dirty pages + * (something that would not, for example, be appropriate for ramfs) + * + * WARNING: these flags are closely related and should not normally be + * used separately.
