I noticed a thread about:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuidle/current_driver
so I decided to see if this happens to me as well.
sure enough the first try gave me no response the
second try gave me a segfault <below is in dmesg>

the kernel is tainted(even though I'm trying to have an
untainted kernel). i.g. video driver
