The problem is this that is in the toplevel Makefile:


ifdef CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER
KBUILD_CFLAGS	+= -fno-omit-frame-pointer -fno-optimize-sibling-calls
else
KBUILD_CFLAGS	+= -fomit-frame-pointer
endif


-pg is incompatible with -fomit-frame-pointer
