The MTD sub-system doesn't support different types of erases (as far as

Add support for SST25L (non JEDEC) SPI Flash chips. Although the SSTL25
chips support a quick 32kb block erase, we use the slower 4k sector
erase to allow for smaller 4kb aligned MTD partitions.
