Subject: Lacie Mobile Disk 250 GB USB 2.0 not recognized by my computer

Hi,

i'm in great trouble,

i bought a "Lacie Mobile Disk 250 GB USB 2.0 HI-speed", but it seems not
recognized by my computer.
The device seems locked when i connect it to a USB port, the diode blue
light remains on,
and i can hear a litttle "tick" every second near the disk, i didn't
heard the disk turning. feels like it is blocked.
- dmesg displays nothing before and after plug-in the device
- the scan of the connected usb port by usbmon reports nothing at all.

Just to precise few things:
- When i boot the machine with KNOPPIX 5.0.1 live CD, it's the same
thing, my Lacie Hard Disk isn't recognized.
- my Lacie Hard Disk works fine in other computer with Ubuntu 9.04 or
Windows XP
- the port USB port 2.0 i used works fine with others devices (Flash
memory Danelec 1 GB Key, MP3 Music Player ARCHOS XS 202)
for example, when i connect my USB key on usb port 2.0 :
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation
1.1 root hub
                    Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0d8c:5000 C-Media
Electronics, Inc. Mass Storage Controller
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation
1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation
1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation
1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0930:6534 Toshiba Corp.
TravelDrive
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation
2.0 root hub
the key is correctly detected and i can find it in /dev/sda1
the key appears too in /proc/bus/usb/devices : (attached to
bus 001, controller of USB 2.0 port with ehci_hcd) :

So, why my Lacie Hard Disk 250GB haven't the same behaviour than my usb
key and my mp3 player ?
How can i activate a trace on what's happening ?
Is this can be a hardware problem ? In the BIOS, i verified that USB
2.0 support is enabled.
i join too my Kernel config. Perhaps an option is not set correctly ?

what information is useful for debugging ?

Any help would be greatly appreciate,

Regards,

Michel GUERREIRO
