Subject: real-time scheduler problem

[1.] PROBLEM: a scheduler bug followed by kernel hang, involving more
than one real-time thread bound to a CPU that is going offline

[2.] I have an IBM JS22 blade (2 POWER-6 CPUs, 4 cores per CPU), running
RHEL5.5, with 2.6.39-rc4 kernel. When running multiple real-time threads
on every logical CPUs, the system will bug when I turns off one CPU,
say, CPU 4 by issuing command
echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/online

Sometimes, I need to issue a sequence of CPU offline/online commands to
make the bug show up, like
echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/online
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/online
echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/online
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/online

The bug is constantly reproducible in kernel version 2.6.38 and
2.6.39-rc4. All the log below is based on 2.6.39-rc4 version.

[3.] Keywords: scheduler

[4.] Kernel version:
Linux version 2.6.39-rc4 (chengxu@...cn.ibm.com) (gcc version 4.4.0
20090514 (Red Hat 4.4.0-6) (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 25 13:58:04
EDT 2011
