Christoph, the only mis-understanding is yours.
I understand perfectly that the percpu cmpxchg isn't SMP-atomic. We
all know that.
The problem is that cmpxchg *IS*NOT*AN*CMPXCHG*AT*ALL*. Not even on UP.
It's something totally different.
