The aim7 tests are basically

        (
                echo $HOSTNAME
                echo $workfile

                echo 1
                echo 2000
                echo 2
                echo 2000
                echo 1
        ) | ./multitask -t

Good point! That may explain it: I'm running a

loop:
        cat /proc/meminfo
        sleep 1

in all the tests.
