I prefer to indent statement labels by one space, so that diff doesn't

Thinking about this more carefully, it looks like the only thing you 
care about here is the !(portstatus & USB_PORT_STAT_CONNECTION) case.  
For everything else, you don't need to retry.

So why not separate out that one case?
