I could reproduce the performance regression with:

  $ wget https://byte-unixbench.googlecode.com/files/UnixBench5.1.3.tgz
  $ tar xvfz UnixBench5.1.3.tgz
  $ cd UnixBench
  $ make
  $ ./Run pipe -c 1
