Subject: Ubuntu 16.10 - Linux Kernel build fails - gcc default pie option

Hi Steve,

After upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10, I can't build upstream kernels on my
system/

I looked at the release notes and found your patch to the Linux Kernel
Makefile to force no-pie for distro compilers that enable pie by default.

https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/616621/

Providing a private patch to kernel Makefile isn't the right choice.

Are there any plans to fix this issue soon?
Do you plan to go back to pie optional in Ubuntu gcc package?
Do you plan to send the patch upstream?

thanks,
-- Shuah
