Subject: Re: 4.9.0 build error on Alpha

Quick followup: tried another "from scratch" build with a stable
compilation environment. No difference. Current gcc and binutils
versions are as follows:

gcc version 6.2.1 20161212 (Debian 6.2.1-6)
GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.27.51.20161212

As always, thanks in advance for any help in resolving this.
