Do you mean the valid check for formats,

I don't think it is necessary. 

Since even it is a NULL ptr, and which may lead drm_writeback_connector_init
fail. and for the put_fourcc_list which is a kfree acctually. and
kfree always ignore the free if the input ptr is NULL.
