Please simply try your write tests after doing this:

echo mq-deadline > /sys/block/<name of your USB disk>/queue/scheduler

And confirm that mq-deadline is selected with:

cat /sys/block/<name of your USB disk>/queue/scheduler
[mq-deadline] kyber bfq none
