The .link_validate() callback is called for all links without making a distinction if it is a subdevice or a video device.

This is true, in the sense that the default helper v4l2_subdev_link_validate() shouldn't be used, because the default helper
only validates between subdevices, driver should implement a custom function to plug in the .link_validate() callback inside
struct media_entity_operations for video nodes.

Those are video nodes who implement custom .link_validate() callbacks, to validate a link between the video node and a subdevice.
