BTW a good API could be
#define VHOST_SET_ENDIAN _IOW(VHOST_VIRTIO, ?, int)
#define VHOST_GET_ENDIAN _IOW(VHOST_VIRTIO, ?, int)
we did it per vring but maybe that was a mistake ...
