Could you try just to flip the bit 0x08?  At LED off state?

% hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 SET_COEF_INDEX 0x0b
% hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 SET_PROC_COEF 0x77f4

That is, the implementation in alc286_fixup_hp_mute_led_coefbit(),
which is used by many other HP laptops.
