Thanks for the reply.
And I agree there are some issues in the current code. I thought those
are fixed in patches before this, because those are bugs.

Yeah, C++ has such smart pointer concept, but C doesn't. So I would
suggest that leaving some comments will help followers. Imagine that
if you see the smart pointer without any prerequisite knowledge.

Of course these are the good examples, but I can not see any comment
why this is done in the code or document. If this programming model
is enough general, you don't need it, but first parson needs to leave
why and how to.

Indeed, this approach can help others to find the issues, and would

Yeah, I also felt that there are less API document in perf in general.

I think just crashing without telling what is the correct way to
handle it, is not kind (and may waste someone's time until they
find the correct way.)

BTW, your approach can crash below pattern (but this is standard
refcount'd object handling in C.)

   map = map__new_and_get();
...
   map__get(map);
   map_operations(map);
   map__put(map);
...
   map__get(map); <- crash! because "map" is already freed.

This must be like the below now;

   map = map__new_and_get();
...
   cur = map__get(map);
   map_operations(cur);
   map__put(cur);
...
   cur2 = map__get(map);

Can this find below case?

   map = map__new_and_get();
...
   /* Do not get map */
   map_operations(map);
