You can replace the above with:

	tmp = kmalloc((i - maskstart) + 1, GFP_KERNEL);
	strscpy(tmp, str + maskstart, (i - maskstart) + 1);

As strscpy() adds the nul terminating character, not to mention that
strncpy() is deprecated (see Documentation/process/deprecated.rst).
