Subject: wifi no longer shows after modem/router upgrade by Bell -- other
 funny stuff not explained

Hello Genius Open Source professional(s);

I hope this note finds you and yours well during the
Covid-19...20...2... crisis.

Thank you for continuing on with linux. Where would the world be
without it, and, so, without you? I stand on the shoulder or giants so
I can see -- the internet -- and learn to solve problems with
fragmented recipes I may one day learn have nothing to do with my
computer. If the universe is a simulation, it needs to upload complex
linux inside knowledge to each and every one of us.

Given my core problem, going with Larry Finger seemed rather
redundant, so I thought I'd send along my information, with the hope
an upstream fix will be introduced to expel the refuse.

As in the subject, the wireless adapter no longer appears to be found,
and so does not show up in the list of network connections re. the
Cinnamon system tray Network Manager utility. Several former
connections are still available to be viewed and edited via Network
Connections, available from the Network Manager flyout/popup.

It's possible the inciting change was a kernel upgrade, which I always
immediately accept, but, for me, the issue is confused with taking
wireless down during modem/router replacement and putting a wired
connection in place. Wireless, as I recall, still did show up as an
interface.

Other symptoms include rclone-browser failure to access rclone's
config (missing dialog and quick hide XTERM on trying to access the
config using the interface, though QT has been reinstalled, remotes
still do not list), and another, docker-compose request timeout
failure which could not be solved with a replacement of the
distribution's release docker.io, but instead required download of
.deb files directly from Docker after urllib3, char and requests were
purged, though that purge may not have been necessary, but did come
before the reinstallation of docker and docker-compose -- now sans
runc as a dependency, if that has anything to do with it.

Anyway, I've mentioned these things just in case they could be
suspected to be related. The main issue remains wifi missing. And it
could still be a break and enter capacitor (or some such) hack by
someone knowledgeable, or simply the great heat death...

Thanks for having a look.

And, if I don't hear from any of you, Happy Holidays to you and all of linux.

Regards,
Tim
