YOUR FIX DOES NOT HELP.  Please use my posted fix.

Replace this with

        open FEST, "|/usr/bin/festival --tts";
        print FEST $string, "\n";
        close FEST;

No shells involved.  Only DOS exploits and maybe the usual
C-language overflows in festival itself.
