Indeed.

The most extreme example I am aware of is the Laroux family of Excel 
VBA macro viruses -- the most recently discovered variant of this 
family is officially known as W97M/Laroux.OT, but the rate of new 
discoveries in this family has slowed greatly, so I doubt it will ever 
reach the .AAA stage...
