I used the following kernel commandline:
root=/dev/sdb6 console=ttyS0,38400 console=tty1 lapic rootflags=nobarrier
I also added nobarrier to the fstab entry for my root.
Just to mention it: My system does not use any RAID devices, not even the
drivers are getting complied.
