The below might work:

  u32 seq;
  s64 count;

again:
  seq = pc->lock;

  if (unlikely(seq & 1)) {
    cpu_relax();
    goto again;
  }

  count = pmc_read(pc->index);
  counter += pc->offset;

  barrier();
  if (pc->lock != seq)
    goto again;
