Wrong '(!ret)'.  Instead of:
        va_end(argp);
        if (!ret)
                ret = crypto_shash_final(&sdesc->shash, paramdigest);
        if (!ret)

do:
        va_end(argp);
        if (!ret)
                ret = crypto_shash_final(&sdesc->shash, paramdigest);
        if (ret < 0)
