There are already a gzip compressed tarball and patches in
kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/, but no bzip2 compressed versions.

I doubt that, since 3.0.1 had no such problems. And updated
tarballs/patches for 2.6.3[23]-longterm haven't appeared at all yet,
although those are in git as well. :-(
