Subject: Re: 3.3.1: hung task in __lock_page

Hi,

I've used gdb to correlate the call trace addresses with the
source to see that the last part of the call chain is:

grab_cache_page_write_begin
  + wait_on_page_writeback
    + wait_on_page_bit
      + __wait_on_bit
        + sleep_on_page
          + io_schedule
            + schedule

I.e. the vblade task was forced to wait an unreasonable time for
a page writeback to complete. And, given it wasn't holding any
locks, I guess this means it's a victim of the problem rather
than a perpetrator?

So, kernel neophyte that I am, what might cause a writeback
to take an unreasonable amount of time?

Any pointers as to where I should be looking to see if I can
work out where the problem lies, with an eye towards a bug fix,
and/or what might be done to avoid triggering the problem again?

Thanks,

Chris.
