Caller is expected to handle the locking. All reg writes for instance
are sequentially handled in device_run and irq handler and both these
funcs are lock protected.

And just for reference, similar approach is present in other JPEG
drivers too as shared before [3]

 For instance
> write_reg_field_not_busy() polls for a busy bit unset, then

>

write_reg_field_not_busy() is using atomic variant of polling for
reading, so it is thread safe, also I don't think there can be another
write called which can make the IP busy, the reason being that busy flag
get's cleared on irq and it does not get set until go bit is set again
which is towards the end of device_run and both these methods are lock
protected.

Yes, this is unused macro and the driver is calculating and updating
using looping as you suggested. I had kept even the unused macros since
I wanted to preserve same header file macros as shared by Imagination
from their reference software, but if that's not preferred then unused
macros can be removed. Please do let me know the preferred option here.

My comment was for media codec drivers mainly, the wave5 driver which
got merged, did not use regmap [4].

There were review comments [5] from Hans even regarding this part of
code which were fixed in this revision, so I don't think this was
overlooked completelely, but yeah It would be great to hear again on
this in case this aspect was overlooked.

I respect your opinions on this, but I still feel using regmap for a
simple driver like this is like using a sledgehammer for breaking a nut
:), but like I said earlier I would like to hear from media maintainers
too regarding this topic and take it from there.

Hans,
Sorry to loop you in, but as you had reviewed this part of code [5] so
needed some help with your opinions to converge faster.

Could you please share your opinion on this topic of regmap usage w.r.t
this driver ?

Does the current implementation in e5010-jpeg-enc-hw.c,
e5010-core-regs.h, e5010-mmu-regs.h look acceptable or you see some
shortcomings with the approach which can be overcome with
regmap/regfield approach ?
