Subject: Re: 6.11.0 crash on X startup
Hi. Sorry for the delayed reply.
When it crashes, the caps lock key stops responding. Unplug/replug the
keyboard usb connection also does
nothing. After the crash, the caps lock key does not light up. Likewise the
power and reset buttons on the front of the case stop responding, I have
to shut
off/reset the computer with the power bar. However, in answering your
questions, I have
done a bit more testing. If I start using 6.11.0 in recovery mode,
enable networking,
drop to the terminal, then run "service lightdm start", it crashes, but
if run
startx, x starts (but I have two monitors and it only starts on one),
but inxi -G shows that the amdgpu loadable kernel module is not in use.
Also the x server is really slow.
On 6.10.0:
inxi -G gives:
Graphics:
Device-1: AMD driver: amdgpu v: kernel
Device-2: Conexant Systems CX23887/8 PCIe Broadcast Audio and Video

On 6.11.0: inxi -G gives:

I know a lot of changes happened to /lib/modules/<kernel
version>/kernel/drivers/gpu/amd/amdgpu/amdgpu.ko
The 6.10.0 version is 523 megabytes and the 6.11.0 version is 580
megabytes. I don't want to point my finger and say "that", but for some
reason my 6.11.0 kernel doesn't seem to like the amdgpu kernel object.
Most of my hardware (tylersberg/nehalem, motherboard) is fairly old, but
the graphics card is less than 2 years old. Maybe that's why
I hit a corner case.
Thanks for your reply.
