Subject: Possible race in ipv4 routing
Hi,
on kernel 4.14(.147) i have seen something weird. The stack trace:

Fortunately i have a core dump, and analyzed that.
Finally in the analysis i came to that point:
(net/ipv4/route.c around line 1520):
static bool rt_cache_valid(const struct rtable *rt)
{
returnrt &&
rt->dst.obsolete == DST_OBSOLETE_FORCE_CHK &&
!rt_is_expired(rt); <<<< crash here, see below
}
The code was executing to the check !rt_is_expired(rt); and the disassembly looks like
ffffffff814f1ba0:48 85 c0 test rax,rax // (1127, check for rt not NULL)
ffffffff814f1ba3:74 0e je ffffffff814f1bb3 <ip_route_output_key_hash_rcu+0x603>

__mkroute_output():
/usr/src/kernel/net/ipv4/route.c:2276

ffffffff814f1bad:0f 84 48 01 00 00 je ffffffff814f1cfb <ip_route_output_key_hash_rcu+0x74b> goes to ***1***
the only reference reaching this point is after the DST_OBSOLETE_FORCE_CHK above:
read_pnet():
/usr/src/kernel/include/net/net_namespace.h:282
ffffffff814f1cfb:48 8b 08 mov rcx,QWORD PTR [rax] <<<<<<***1*** need to come in here because previous instruction is a "jmp"

Looking at the data i can see that dst.obsolete=0x0002 (i ordered the memdump into the struct), so why did we reach that point?

Looks like a race somewhere, but i am not familiar with the TCPIP code.
What i have found is a patch that was submitted for 4.14 and could have somethig to do with that:
https://www.spinics.net/lists/stable-commits/msg133055.html
But this patch didn't make it into 4.14.
Can someone check this race condition?
Best regards
Carsten
