I agree with you, we have a plan to utilize FIELD_GET and FIELD_PREP
macros throughout the code, as there are multiple places that 
look similar to this one and would benefit from this change.
I prefer to address it in a separate patchset at a later stage,
if that's OK with you.

I understand your point, this is a uniform application of the clang formatter
tool and the penalties applied, given some compromises.
Most of the changes make the code better and more readable, but
there are some corner cases which are ok/reasonable, and I preferred to not
make manual changes and override the output. Let me know what you think.
