The word is VMWARE, dont have to lug the box and can have all the
protection, linux or whatever you need.
Agreed on Sygate, not a bad product all in all, but always had issues with
udp for some reason.

Vmware gives me best of both worlds, 1 thing though, if your connecting back
to work, didnt know that sygate did secure vpn connections? hehe

and is there such a thing as software and hardware firewall?, its how you
make them and in what context you put them in. to me its about layers, not
hdware/sftware

Yes - I love running hardware firewall between me and other work
colleagues.
Just plonk the laptop down on the desk next to the ageing 386 bsd box
firewalling me from the corp network.

Then when I go out to a clients, I take the bsd box along as well.
Then when I travel somewhere I take the bsd box and plug it into the
hotel's network. They don't mind the extra power costs.

I am sure you realise there is a place for software as well as hardware
firewalls.
Personally I don't mind sygate pfp for duties on my laptop. Seems to do
the job pretty well.

Cheers

why are you buying application layer firewalls? dont as a security
person you learn anything?

get hold of a spare 386, and make a netbsd, ipcop, smoothwall, linux
based firewall, alot of fun and a shit load better, I will personally
stick with my checkpoint box, but please please start taking ya
firewalls of your own machines, they deserve a place of their own, ON
THEIR OWN BOX, Tiny and the rest have all been breached with deep packet
inspections through nemesis, at the end of the day, its still Layer 7

Regards
